Gang Liu

Professor , Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences (RCEES)

Gang Liu is a Professor at the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences (RCEES), Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing, where he also serves as Deputy Director of the State Key Laboratory of Aquatic Chemistry. He is a Visiting Professor at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in the Netherlands, where he completed his PhD on microbial ecology in drinking water distribution systems. He is a leading researcher in drinking water science and environmental engineering, with particular expertise in drinking water quality, microbial ecology, biofilms, water treatment processes, and drinking water distribution systems. With extensive experience spanning academic research and applied environmental science, he is internationally recognised for his contributions to understanding and managing microbial risks in water systems.Professor Liu has influenced the water sector nationally and internationally through high-impact research, graduate training, and close collaboration with industry and government. He serves as Editor-in-Chief, Editor, or Associate Editor for several internationally recognised journals, including Water Science and Technology, Blue-Green Systems, Engineering, Water & Ecology, and Water Research. He is also a board member of the International Water Association on Health-Related Water Microbiology.
