Chief Inspector, DRINKING WATER INSPECTORATE
Marcus is the Chief Inspector of Drinking Water, appointed in August 2015. As Chief Inspector he is the technical regulator for the water industry for England and Wales ensuring over 15 billion litres of water is safely supplied by the water industry to 55 million consumers daily. He leads a team of technical experts, scientists and engineers drawn from water and allied industries checking that the quality, sufficiency, security, emergency response, materials and operational technology systems are fit for purpose as outlined in legislation. He is currently a member of the Board of the Regulators Alliance for Infrastructure Development (Rapid), Chair of the Standing Committee of Analysts who are responsible for the methodologies used in water and wastewater management and leads as a collaborating centre for the WHO for water and sanitation health. Examples of previous responsibilities include being the UK representative of the technical advisory group for the Drinking Water Directive in the EU and as the Chair for the 2012 Olympics public health water group. As a professional regulator and Chartered Scientist for over 25 years and with a total career spanning 35 years in health, public analysis and the water industry he is a published author on innovative and better regulation as well as risk-based security for the water industry.
